Paper & Oak Eth

Paper & Oak Eth

£1,500.00

Piece 3, of a series of 3.
This tactile sculpture, inspired by the fluid shape of the Eth_ð, combines two materials that began at the same source, paper and wood.

Produced from oak and recycled newspapers, these beautifully tactile objects combine hundreds of pages, layered and compressed. Lathe turned using traditional wood working techniques, a beautiful wood grain can be seen from both the oak and paper, produced from the text.

The shape of the character Eth (ð) is reminiscent of the pieces in this collection. An Old English letter of unknown origins, perhaps from the flourish of an Irish monks’ scribe, used in Faroese and Icelandic, it symbolises the centuries of words layered in this work.
