materials and processes

Materials

My collections bring together two materials that began at the same source…

Wood, a solid and natural material & Paper, a short-term fragile material.

Partnership

Combining paper with wood and the relationship between the two materials is continuing to take me on a new journey within my artistic process. By joining the working practices I previously employed with each material independently, I have married the two with fascinating results.

Sustainability

Working sustainably has always been an important element within my work, so to be able to create a technique using unwanted paper, became a defining factor within my practise.

Recycling

My pieces highlight the need to recycle, they show that a disposable and fragile material can be given strength, longevity and beauty. Once layered it is transformed back into a wood like material, and becomes more durable. Wood becomes paper becomes wood.

Processes

Traditional wood working methods are used to create one of kind art sculptures. As the pieces are wood worked each material’s grain exposes the consequences of my working actions, revealing the unseen internal imprint as the surface is scraped away.

Shape & Form

I am continually inspired and intrigued by natural shapes and forms. The beauty of nature, combined with recycling and the evolution of both materials creates constant paths for my work to follow.

Inspiration

Inspired by life, growth and our journeys. These elements are then interpreted and handcrafted to extend these journeys into bespoke art sculptures.

Tactile

I want my work to be enjoyed and explored visually, physically and thoughtfully. There should be no barriers.
